Shutters are measured by the finished size, including the frame that goes around your window, not just the glass opening. Add your windows room by room and pick a frame to see the real square footage. Zebra shades have no frame, so they're just the window size.

How to measure your windows (2 minutes)
- Use a steel tape measure and measure in inches, to the nearest 1/8".
- Width: measure inside the window opening from side to side, at the top, middle and bottom. Write down the smallest number.
- Height: measure from the top of the opening to the sill, at the left, center and right. Write down the smallest number.
- Measure every window, even ones that look the same. Windows that look identical are often off by 1/4" or more.
- Note anything special: arches, sliding doors, French door handles, or windows next to a wall corner.
- Don't worry about getting it perfect. These numbers are for your estimate. We re-measure everything at your free in-home visit before we build.

Step by step on your phone
- Tape a regular 8½ × 11 sheet of paper flat on the glass. It can be on either side of the window.
- Stand in the middle of the window and hold your phone straight, not tilted up or down. Get the whole window and the trim in the picture. Don't zoom or use wide-angle (0.5×).
- In the list below, tap the camera button next to Height.
- Choose Take Photo to use your camera now, or Photo Library for a picture you already took. If your phone asks to use the camera, tap Allow.
- Wait about 10 seconds. The width and height fill in, the frame is added, and you see the square feet.
- Tap + Add another window and repeat for each window. Your list is saved on your phone.
- When you're done, tap Send these sizes with my quote request, or Print my list.
It's an estimate (usually within an inch or two). We measure exactly at your free visit before we build anything.

The frame is the trim piece that goes around your window and holds the shutter. Different frames have different widths, so they add different amounts to your square footage.
